It s recently been reported1 that the future of North Norfolk s CCTV cameras will be decided next week. According to the article, North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has put plans in place to turn off all of its CCTV cameras in March in a bid to save 200,000 a year. Representatives of Sheringham, Fakenham, and North Walsham town councils have proposed plans to save the CCTV security cameras, which includes NNDC providing 90,000 of funding to cover the cost of reconfiguring the CCTV system.
The town councils state that the NNDC s plan to switch off the cameras would cost 95,000, so their plan could save the council a total of 5000. Under their plan, the town councils would be responsible for the costs of running the cameras. It s hoped that a decision on the future of the CCTV in North Norfolk will be reached next week.
North Norfolk isn t the first council to consider switching their CCTV cameras off, with news of councils taking the decision to turn off cameras in a bid to save funds unfortunately a common occurrence.
With this in mind, it s becoming more important than ever for businesses to install their own security systems to help deter criminals, protect their premises, and help police with their investigations. CCTV security systems are well known for being effective2 crime preventatives, but in the event of a crime they can provide vital evidence for police in their investigations. Clear, high quality images can assist with the identification of individuals, while footage can help police to determine the course of events.
While the future of North Norfolk s CCTV cameras is currently unknown, this news serves as a reminder for business owners that installing their own security system3 can be crucial in offering protection to the premises. Such systems can also offer valuable reassurance to customers, visitors, and members of staff.
CCTV cameras can be a valuable addition to the business premises and while cameras are being switched off in public areas, a security system in a business can prove vital to its protection.
